Goethe-Institut (GI)
The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institution operational worldwide. GI sets internationally recognised standards in the teaching and learning of German as a foreign language. It runs language courses, compiles teaching materials, trains teachers, contributes to scientific research and participates in politicolanguage initiatives. The Research and Development unit at the head office in Munich collates teaching, exam and training material for German as a foreign and second language.
The Goethe-Institut's German language examinations correspond to the levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and range from A1 for beginners to C2 for language skills at the highest level.
