The European Language Certificates (telc)
telc stands for The European Language Certificates. Telc language examinations are developed and administered by the WBT Weiterbildungs-Testsysteme GmbH with headquarter in Frankfurt am Main, in cooperation with other European institutions: Goethe Institute, Swiss Conference of Cantonal Ministers of Education (EDK), the the Austrian Language Diploma (ÖSD) and numerous universities throughout Europe. telc examinations are geared to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and have been developed to serve the needs and interests of a wide variety of individuals, groups and organisations.
More information
telc now offers over 50 different examinations, in nine European languages.
- telc school tests - aimed at pupils aged 12 years and older who are interested in more than a standard school certificate to document their language competence.
- telc general language tests - aimed at adults who wish to certify their language abilities and thereby achieve their personal or professional goals.
- telc business tests - aimed at everyone seeking certification of their language competence for business and professional purposes. T
All telc examinations – during every phase of their development – are geared to the ALTE quality standards for language examinations.
Telc examinations are also aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, teaching, assessment. The CEF defines six internationally comparable levels of progress:
- A1 and A2: basic language skills
- B1 and B2: independent use of language
- C1 and C2: proficient use of language
Currently the Test Development team creates language tests in nine different European languages:
- English
- German
- Turkish
- Spanish
- French
- Italian
- Portuguese
- Russian
- Czech
